The Roughneck Monitor, also called the Black Roughneck, is a large, arboreal lizard native to forest habitat in
Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Its name is after the pointed bumps of scales on the back of the neck, particularly prominent on
older adults. (Dumeril's Monitor, with a similar range, is sometimes called the Brown Roughneck.)
Juvenile Roughnecks have spots which fade with age. Adults grow to about a metre long but can reach 1.5 metres.
