Italian Wall Lizard Podarcis sicula
The Italian Wall Lizard, also called the Turkish Wall and the Ruin Lizard, is native to much of southern Europe,
particularly southern Italy but also France, all Italy, former Yugoslavia and, introduced, to Spain and Turkey.
It is particularly at home basking in the sun on, and hiding under, ancient stone ruins, like these in Rome's Forum, giving it the name of Ruin Lizard.
The Italian Wall Lizard is more strongly marked than the Common Wall Lizard and much greener in hue.
The underside is white.
The tail can be sacrificed and regrown.
There are several subspecies over its range, particularly on islands.
