The Frill-necked Lizard, also called just Frilled Lizard/Dragon/Agama, is an agamid lizard native to
semi-arid wooded areas of northern Australia and southern New Guinea.
It is mainly arboreal and stays motionless for long periods blending in with the wood. Diet is mainly invertebrates.
It can grow to nearly a metre in length including tail.
It looks amazing when the frill around its neck is extended in courtship, territorial defence or to
startle a predator. Many thanks to Matt Clancy for use of his image showing this (above right) from Wikimedia Commons. The page seemed
incomplete without such an illustration.
