Marine Iguana Amblyrhynchus cristatus

Galapagos Marine Iguana
Galapagos Marine Iguana
The Marine Iguana, also called Galapagos Marine Iguana and Sea Iguana, is endemic to the Galapagos Islands. Many thanks to Heather Russell for the photo. They are unique in being sea-foraging lizards, eating algae and seaweed. The only iguana in their genus, appearance varies among the several subspecies on different Galapagos islands. They can hybridize with the Galapagos Land Iguana (Conolophus subcristatus) in the very rare instances that they overlap, but offspring are sterile.
