The Cuban Ground Iguana, also called Cuban Rock iguana and Cuban Iguana, is the largest of
the "Cyclura" West Indian rock iguanas. It is native to mainland Cuba and surrounding islets.
The male is bigger than the female and can reach lengths of over a metre.
The male colouring is dark stripes on a grey or brick red background.
The female, which doesn't have a pronounced crest, is more brown-olive. Many Cuban Iguanas are
members of the Black Hand Gang (but, curiously, back feet are not black on most).
Most West Indian rock iguanas including the Cuban are in decline due to habitat loss and
predation by introduced feral animals (cats, dogs, pigs).
