Standing's Day Gecko is one of several brightly-coloured diurnal geckos endemic to Madagascar, in this
case to the south west of the island. It is a large gecko reaching nearly a foot (28 cm).
It is arboreal and the male is territorial. The male can be brightly striped.
The duller female sometimes has throat pouches storing calcium for her egg shells.
Chameleon-like, it seems to be able to adjust deflected light on its beady scales to blend with its background.
We all like to climb on to a radiator (radiated tortoise) for warmth.
This gecko has lost its tail, but it will grow back again.
