Standing's Day Gecko is one of several brightly-coloured diurnal geckos endemic to Madagascar, in this case to the south west of the island. It is a large gecko reaching nearly a foot (28 cm).

It is arboreal and the male is territorial. The male can be brightly striped.

The duller female sometimes has throat pouches storing calcium for her egg shells.
