Bavay's Giant Gecko, also called variations of the New Caledonian Mossy Prehensile-tailed Gecko, is native to southern
New Caledonia, east of Australia, and to a couple of other small islands in the group. It is nocturnal and tree-dwelling, with a mossy-looking,
green or reddish brown surface and prehensile tail. It can grow to a length of a foot (30 cm, half of which is tail).
Its two eggs fuse together after laying and the mother watches over them until they hatch.
It is vulnerable, threatened by illegal trade and non-native species.
