The New Guinea Forest Dragon, also called Gariau Forest Dragon and NG Tree Dragon, is an arboreal agamid lizard native to Papua New Guinea.
Males have a prominent crest or crown and use head bobbing to attract females. They climb, run and swim well.
As their taxonomic name indicates, they are large for their genus, with a snout-to-vent length for males of
some 23 cm and a very long tail.
Some other Hysilurus species are sometimes also referred to as NG Forest Dragon. The Crowned or Indonesian
Forest Dragon, Lophosaurus dilophus, is also present in New Guinea.
