The Striped Basilisk, also called the Brown Basilisk, is native to Mexico, Central America and northwestern Colombia.
Adults can reach 60cm (2 feet) in length, of which two-thirds is tail. Adult males have a crest on the head, back and tail
and more colourful white and olive stripes. Adult females have a small crest.
Basilisks can run upright over water using their long tails for balance/float.
These may be young adult or sub-adult Brown Basilisks which have lost their dark bars but have not yet
developed the white line from eye to rear,
