The Ruby Tiger is a pretty red-brown moth often found flying in midday sun as well as at night.
It is native to much of Eurasia through to China, North Africa and even North America.
Its mane is like that of a bison. It has red "thighs". Wingspan 30-35mm; UK flight time Apr-Sep.
The underside can look brown or red (different individuals).
The Ruby Tiger is prettiest when showing its amazing ruby-red upper body with black spots which, when its wings lay flat,
can look like black stripes and give it its name.
