The Common Rustic is a very variable moth with some of its forms looking remarkably similar to other "Rustic" moths.
In addition, it has been split into three species which are almost indistinguishable: the Common Rustic, the Lesser Common Rustic and Remm's Rustic.

These two Common Rustic moths were attracted to the wasp trap on an aviary. They were extracted alive and released.
The Lesser Common Rustic is also very variable in form but the dark form with white "eyes" are often Lesser Common Rustics.
