Common Heath Moth Ematurga atomaria

A day-flying moth, the above photos of the Common Heath moth were taken in southeast Kazakhstan. It's UK flight time is May-Jun, with an occasional second generation in August in the south. Wingspan 22-30mm. It is a variable moth, showing both a dark-bordered and a light bordered version above. A wholly dark variant also exists. Male (above left) has different appearance to female (usually darker stripes and no border).
