Creatonotos gangis moth Many thanks to Tony Clancy for the above photo taken in Southeast Asia.
Creatonotos gangis, as its black-spotted red body shows, is related to the Tiger moths (Ruby Tiger, Garden Tiger, etc). It is native to Southeast Asia and Australia. The wingspan is some 40mm.
The alien-like growths on the tail of the male, above left, are scent organs which produce pheromones to attract the female.
