Carcina Quercana Moth Carcina quercana

Wingspan: 16-22mm Carcina quercana moth
UK flight time: July-Aug Carcina quercana moth
Carcina quercana is a pretty crimson and yellow moth with antennae longer than its body (one broken in photo above). It has no English common name in Europe, although in North America where it has been introduced it is known as the Oak-skeletonizer Moth. It has an unfortunate Latin name, carcina meaning cancer although the quercana part refers to the oak (quercus) used by the caterpillars.
