The Oxford Sandy and Black Pig was one of the oldest British domestic pig breeds, created in the upper Thames
Valley around Oxfordshire. Only a few survived by the 1960s/1970s and many were suspected not to be purebred, so the breed was declared extinct.
It was re-created in the 1980s and is once again recognised as a rare breed.
A medium-large pig, as its name indicates, it has sandy- or ginger-coloured hair on the body and black patches and spots,
both of which limit sunburn.
They are hardy and prolific breeders.
