Field vole and bank vole: mouse-size, total length 8-12 cm. Water vole: rat-size, 14-22 cm.
Field vole: grey-brown, shaggy, tail about a third of body length, open grassland.
Bank vole: chestnut brown, sleek, tail a half of body length, wood/shrub cover.
