The Red Deer has a rich red coat without spots and the stag (male) has branched antlers which are re-grown each year. The
female is a hind rather than a doe.
A large deer (Britain's largest if an introduced, free-ranging population of Reindeer is excluded), the stag
reaches some 4 feet at the shoulder.
The Red Deer is native to most of Europe, small areas of Western and Central Asia and, unusually for deer, a small
part of Northwestern Africa.
Females don't have antlers. Like most young deer, the fawn (young) has spots.
Like many deer, Red Deer live in herds.
