The Fallow Deer is a medium-sized spotted deer native to most of Europe and the Caucasus.
Unlike the Red Deer and Roe Deer, the Fallow Deer is not native to Britain. It was introduced from Europe by the Normans for hunting.
The buck (male, above) grows to just under a metre shoulder-height and, like almost all true deer, re-grows its
antlers each year.
Buck, doe (female) and fawn (young) are spotted, although pale and dark monotones also appear (see photos above and below).
The rump is always white with black markings.
