Mountain Zebra Equus zebra
There are three species of Zebra -- all are black (or dark brown) and white striped small horses but the basic stripe pattern and some other features vary.
All are native to Africa.
The Mountain Zebra shown here looks similar to the more common Plains Zebra but has tighter stripes at the front end,
a different pattern of stripes on the rump, heavily-striped legs, a white belly and a dewlap on the lower neck. Its "white" can be quite sandy off-white.
There are two subspecies of Mountain Zebra: the nominal Cape Mountain Zebra
(E.z. zebra) which has a small population in the Cape area
of South Africa and Hartman's Mountain Zebra (E. z. hartmanni) of Namibia, the latter shown on this page.
"What's black and white and read all over?"

They live in dry mountainous or hilly areas in small groups rather than large herds.
