The Montecristo Goat is Italy's only remaining "wild" goat, although it is actually feral, its
ancestors having been Middle Eastern wild goats. They live on the Tuscan island of Montecristro (famous for its Count).
Both males and females have horns but the males (above, young and adult) have much larger, curled horns and long beards.
Many males have a characteristic coat with black face, mane, shoulder, spine, belly and lower leg markings (reminiscent
of the Bezoar Ibex) which may have been the original appearance before dilution with domestic stock.
Females are slimmer with much shorter and thinner horns.
