The Dama Gazelle is native to Africa's Sahara and Sahel. Its population has declined massively
from its former range through hunting and habitat loss and it is now largely confined to parts of Chad, Mali and Niger.
Two of the three subspecies are extinct in the wild and the remaining subspecies is
critically endangered.
Both male and female have horns (the latter are shorter). With its extremely long thin legs,
it is the tallest gazelle (about 3-4 feet at the shoulder) and ranges widely in search of food and water.
