Siberian Musk Deer are native to mountain forests of northeastern Asia. Shy and crepuscular, Musk Deer are
not true deer but are more related to goats, sheep and antelopes than to true deer. Males grow long, sharp canine teeth for
fighting but no antlers or horns.
There are 7 remaining species of Musk Deer, all native to Asia. All are vulnerable, hunted especially for their
musk glands, used in the perfume trade. There are 4 subspecies of the Siberian Musk Deer - that shown being the nominal subspecies.
