Chinese Water Deer
Chinese Water Deer
Chinese Water Deer are native to China and Korea. There are feral populations of escapees in the UK and elsewhere. With continued poaching in their native China, 10% of the world population is now in the UK. They have red coats with a distinctive grey patch on their muzzles.

They are slightly smaller than Roe Deer but slightly larger than Muntjac. Despite really good hearing, they can be startled when you creep up on them.

The female doesn't have the long, tusk-like canine teeth. Since they can smell people at some 100 metres away, the usual view (if seen at all) is a disappearing behind.
