Southern Right Whale Eubalaena australis

Whale species are either "toothed" or "baleen". Right Whales are baleen. There are 3 species: North Atlantic, North Pacific and Southern. The last of these inhabits the southern oceans. All Right Whales have distinctive rough, calcified skin patches which contrast with their black skin. A huge but docile whale, they can reach 60 feet (18 metres) long and weigh some 90 tons.
