Black-tufted Marmoset Callithrix penicillata

The rare Black-tufted Marmoset lives in small family groups in rainforests of eastern Brazil.

Like other marmosets, their teeth (long incisors) are adapted to chisel small holes in trees to drink sap and gum in addition to taking fruit, flowers, insects and snails.

They have specific alarm calls to identify different predators such as eagles, snakes or wild cats.

Parenting duties are shared among male and female family members.
