The Toque Macaque, named after the patch of "hair" on its head (cf. Bonnet Macaque), is endemic
to Sri Lanka. It fills the same role as the Rhesus Macaque in northern India (and much of IndoChina) and the Bonnet
Macaque in southern India.
Like other macaques, it is a social animal living in a female-dominated heirarchy with the direct descendants of the lead
matriarch taking precedence.
