The unimaginatively-named (and confusingly-named) Brown Lemur, also called Common Brown Lemur,
is native to parts of northwestern and northeastern Madagascar, and has a small northern inland population.
Its classification originally included several subspecies that have been split out in recent years.
Unusually for the brown-coloured lemurs, male and female appearance is similar.
They are dispersers of seeds for fruit trees but, like other lemurs, are declining through habitat loss by human activity and are vulnerable.
