The Etruscan Shrew is one of the two smallest living mammals in the world; it is the smallest by
mass, weighing less than 2 grams, but its head/body length of 4cm (excluding tail) is around 1cm longer than the Bumblebee Bat.
It is native to much of Mediterranean Europe and some of coastal North Africa, patches of the
Middle East and West/Central Asia, a part of southern India, Thailand, Malaysia and a few other small areas of Southeast Asia.
It favours warm, slightly damp areas with plenty of hiding places.
It is usually solitary and territorial, pairing only to breed. Diet is mainly insects, especially crickets/grasshoppers,
but also other small prey.
