The Raccoon, also spelled Racoon, is native to North and Central America.
There are also feral Raccoon populations in mainland Europe. It is more active by night than by day.
Coat can vary between grey, black and brown. Silver grey is shown above left
with the typical wild brown-grey (top row), chestnut red with grey (above centre) and blond (above right).
It used to be thought to be related to dogs, badgers or bears. Closest relatives are Ringtails and Coatis.
