The Golden Possum is a golden-coloured subspecies of the Common Brush-tailed Possum native to
fragmented eucalyptus forests of Tasmania. Some give it full species status.
Like other possums, it is nocturnal and mainly solitary. It is largely arboreal. Diet is mainly
vegetarian but will include eggs and even young bird chicks if available.
Gripping prehensile tail.
It is likely that the absence of most natural predators in Tasmania has allowed the possum to
retain its conspicuous golden colour.
