The African Pygmy Mouse is one of the world's smallest rodents. It is native to savannah and grassland of
parts of central, southeastern and southern Africa.
An adult African Pygmy Mouse has a head and body length of only 2-2.5 cm (up to 1 inch) and a tail that is as long
or a little longer, giving a total length of some 5-7cm. Like the Common Woodmouse, their coat is reddish brown with a white underside.
They are social, active and mainly nocturnal.
They stack small pebbles outside their burrows and it is thought that they drink the dew
that forms on them in the morning. Like mice everywhere, they are an important prey for other species.
