The Fennec or Fennec Fox is a desert fox native to the Sahara. It is the world's smallest wild canine species and has disproportionately large ears.
It is mainly nocturnal. Well-camouflaged against the desert sand, it lives in underground tunnels to keep cool in the daytime heat and to escape predators.
It is territorial, monogamous and lives in family groups. Prey includes grasshoppers, other insects,
lizards, birds, eggs, small rodents, fruit and tubers. It is a solitary hunter with excellent hearing (as you would expect with those ears).
