Elephant Shrews, also called Sengis, are not shrews and, surprisingly, are more closely related
to elephants and seacows than to shrews or rodents. There are several species, all fast, long-snouted and native to (mainly southern) Africa.
The Round-eared Elephant Shrew (formerly called Short-eared) is native to dry shrub, grassland and desert of South Africa, Botswana and Namibia.
Usually solitary, they are monogamous when they pair. They eat insects and some plant material.
