Bush Dog Speothos venaticus

The Bush Dog is a thick-set, squat, small to medium-sized wild dog native to South America, from Panama to the northern two-thirds of South America. Despite its large range, it is uncommon. It is distantly related to the Maned Wolf also of South America and with red fur and black legs.

Male and female have a similar appearance, adults all having reddish fur with black limbs and tail and pups being wholly black.

Bush Dogs live in family groups with an alpha breeding pair and multiple offspring. They hunt in packs and, like wolves, can bring down prey much larger than themselves, such as capybara.
