Some Bengal Tigers carry a gene which, rarely, results in a white, striped coat.
These are not albino since they have blue eyes and some brown stripes.
There are two types of coat pattern of white tigers: the "striped," shown above left, and the "stripeless," shown above right,
although they have some faint stripes on the latter.
Some have a very pale sandy background colour (above) rather than pure white.
All white tigers in captivity are said to be descended from a single male captive white Bengal Tiger
(captured in 1951 for the Maharajah of Rewa and named "Mohan") and have limited genetic diversity. The last known wild
white tiger was shot in 1958.
Like domestic cats, do tigers also need to eat vegetation sometimes?
