The beautiful Snow Leopard is native to mountain areas of Central Asia. It is endangered in the wild.
It has thick, insulating fur and its wide, fur-covered feet act as snow-shoes. Its long, fat tail is both for balance when climbing and for warmth when at rest.
Its coat has black rosettes on a light grey or pale sandy background. The pattern is different to that of a Leopard.
Despite sometimes being put in "Panthera" genus with the African/Asian Leopard,
it cannot roar like the Big Cats and is not closely related to the much larger Leopard.
