The Puma, also called the Cougar in North America and Mountain Lion, is the
largest wild cat native to North America. It is also native to Central and South America where the Jaguar is the largest.
Although northern Pumas are generally larger than Leopards, the Puma is not classed as one of the Big Cats like the
Leopard, Jaguar or Lion since it cannot roar.
The Puma has a plain coat without spots, stripes or patterns. The ground colour
ranges from grey to tawny and even reddish (but not black (melanistic)). It is mainly solitary, territorial and nocturnal.
