The Margay is native to rainforests of Mexico, Central and South America. There are a number of subspecies over its range.
It is a little smaller than its relative, the Ocelot, and a little greyer in colour. Male and female have a similar appearance.
Like the Ocelot, the Margay is generally solitary and mainly nocturnal.
It is also mainly arboreal and a better climber than the larger Ocelot.
When hunting, it has been observed mimicking the noise made by tamarins, one of its prey species.
Also like the Ocelot, the Margay is hunted for its fur.
