The Margay is native to rainforests of Mexico, Central and South America. There are a number of subspecies over its range. It is a little smaller than its relative, the Ocelot, and a little greyer in colour. Male and female have a similar appearance.

Like the Ocelot, the Margay is generally solitary and mainly nocturnal. It is also mainly arboreal and a better climber than the larger Ocelot. When hunting, it has been observed mimicking the noise made by tamarins, one of its prey species.
