The Jaguarundi is native to forests of Central and South America. Other scientific names include
Herpailurus yagouaroundi, Felis yagouaroundi, Felis unicolor and others.
It is the size of a large domestic cat with a disproportionately small head and ears. It has a uniform
colour without spots (kittens have some spots on the underside) and can be brown, reddish brown or charcoal grey; even
siblings within the same litter can vary in colour.
It is generally solitary and hunts mainly by day. Prey includes rodents, reptiles, birds and some invertebrates.
Despite the "Jaguar" in its name, it is closely related to the much larger Puma (Cougar).
