The Asian Golden Cat is native to scattered areas of tropical and subtropical forests of northeast India to Southeast Asia.
A medium-sized wild cat, its coat can be golden, ginger/red-golden, olive-grey or melanistic (black) and, rarely, can have small spots or rosettes.
It is mainly solitary. Prey includes large rodents, small hoofed animals, small monkeys and birds.
The Asian Golden Cat is "vulnerable", declining mainly from loss of habitat (significant deforestation)
but also from depletion of prey and from poaching for pelts, meat and body parts.
