The Large Hairy Armadillo, also called the Big Hairy Armadillo, is native to the southern half of South America.
Like all armadillos, its topside is covered in bony plates for protection.
"Let us pray"
The name "hairy" is due to the large amount of fur on the underside. They can roll into a ball
for protection from predators but humans hunt them for "sport", food and their shells.
Armadillos can climb and are good burrowers for food or shelter.
They are mainly insectivores and, when food is plentiful, mainly nocturnal or crepuscular.
