The Large Amber Snail is not very large but is bigger than other amber snails. Like other amber snails,
it is found close to water (ponds, rivers, lakes), but not submerged in water.
It is native to the UK and much of temperate northern Eurasia. The "amber" name is due to most having
amber-coloured, slightly translucent shells.
The brown shell with large body and small spire can grow to 15-20mm long. Amber snails generally
don't fit snuggly in their shells.
Pfeiffer's Amber Snail, also called the Slender Amber Snail, is found close to water (ponds, rivers, lakes),
but not submerged in water, of the UK and much of temperate Europe.
The brown shell with large body and small spire can grow to 10-12mm long. It is smaller than that of the Large
Amber Snail, Succinea putris (15-20mm), and is more laterally compressed.
