The (African Giant) Chocolate (Banded) Millipede is one of at least two species native to West Africa, one (above) to the forests where it lives in (and eats) leaf litter, one of nature's recyclers, and another to dry savanna. "African giants", they can grow to some 20cm long. They vary from mid-brown with red inner rings and legs (above) to solid darker brown without the red.

Like other large African millipedes, they can discharge Prussic acid for defence.
