Leafcutter Ants are farmers. The leaves they cut and carry back to their nests are used to grow fungus which the ants eat. These very dark brown to black Acromyrmex spp. leafcutters are native to Argentina. Acromyrmex has four pairs of spines and a rough upper thorax whereas Atta species have three pairs of spines and a smooth thorax.
