The Golden Weaver Ant is native to Southeast Asia, southern India and a small part of northern Australia.
There may be several (up to 50) queens in one colony. Workers (6-8mm long) and queens have golden hairs on their black bodies.
They weave low nests in shrubs, tall grasses and lower parts of trees using leaves, twigs and larval silk.
The fight. They can bite and spray formic acid.
