Lord Howe Island Stick Insect Dryococelus australis

The Lord Howe Island Stick Insect, native to the Lord Howe Island group, Australia, was thought to be extinct but in 2001 a small group was found living on a single shrub on the volcanic outcrop of Balls Pyramid. This strange black, wingless stick insect remains extremely rare.
