Cockroaches are nature's recyclers and the Domino Cockroach of southern India recycles leaf litter, wood and fallen fruit.
Like other cockroaches, it is crepuscular/nocturnal and uses pheromones to communicate. It is oval with black wing cases with 7 white spots.
Its "domino" black with white spots mimics India's Domino Beetle which sprays a nasty chemical so
that potential predators leave the cockroach alone. There is another cockroach in its genus, also from southern India
and also called the (Indian) Domino, Therea petiveriana (also called the Desert and the Seven-spotted), which looks
similar and has similar habits (see below).
The Indian Domino Cockroach, also called the Desert and the Seven-spotted, is also native to
southern India. It looks similar to the Domino above and eats decaying matter. It grows to 3cm long.
