The ("Inane") Hornet-mimic Volucella inanis, also called the Lesser Hornet Hoverfly, is a large yellow and brown Hoverfly. Eggs are laid in nests of Hornets and social Wasps. It is distinguished from the Belted Hoverfly by a yellow rather than brown first abdominal segment (technically second segment, but first large segment) and narrower black lines.
