Hoverfly Epistrophe eligans

The female Epistrophe eligans hoverfly (above) has a shiny bronze thorax with golden hairs and an elegant pattern of two gold bars (one split) on her abdomen.

The male is similar, with larger eyes meeting at the top of his head, but his abdominal pattern is less clear or absent.
