The Hoverfly above, Cheilosia illustrata, mimics a bumblebee in its appearance as camouflage from predators.
It is sometimes called the Illustrious Cheilosa.
The Greater Bulb Fly, also called the Narcissus Fly, Merodon equestris, is another bumblebee-mimic.
It is called a Bulb or Narcissus Fly since the larvae live in and eat bulbs such as daffodils. It is a variable species in appearance.
(The Lesser Bulb Fly, another hoverfly whose larvae live in bulbs, is no relation but has similar habits.)
